Brachytherapy Specialist
Focuses on genitourinary, gynecologic, head and neck and central nervous system cancers
Kunal Saigal, MD

Dr. Kunal Saigal is a board-certified and fellowship-trained radiation oncologist who has advanced expertise in the employment of brachytherapy for treating cancers of the breast, head and neck, prostate and gynecologic system. He is a noted researcher and clinician who focuses on identifying new and effective methods for delivering targeted radiation therapy and designing innovative treatment plans for cancer patients. A nationally renowned researcher who has presented his work in landmark scientific forums and whose work appears in multiple peer-reviewed medical journals, he joined Radiation Oncology Specialists upon completion of his advanced fellowship training in brachytherapy at Mount Sinai’s Beth Israel Medical Center/Roosevelt Hospital in New York. He previously completed his radiation oncology residency and served as Chief Resident at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital and his internal medicine internship at Georgetown University’s Washington Hospital Center after having received his Medical Degree from the University of Miami’s Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine.

Since joining Florida Hospital, Dr. Saigal has collaborated with Dr. Matthew Biagioli in developing the region’s only MRI-guided high-dose-rate brachytherapy program for the treatment of prostate and gynecologic cancers.  Combining their expertise with the latest imaging and treatment technologies available, this technique allows delivery of high-dose radiation therapy with pinpoint accuracy, thereby limiting the radiation doses delivered to surrounding structures, such as the erectile nerve bundles which surround the prostate gland. This treatment paradigm also allows patients to receive their high radiation dose treatments as efficiently as possible on an outpatient basis, avoiding the need for hospitalizations. Dr. Saigal serves as Assistant Professor of Radiation Oncology at the University of Central Florida College of Medicine, where he mentors and conducts research with medical students interested in pursuing a career in Radiation Oncology.
